Beyond the Silt

The eternal question "What's new?" may seem engaging, but it leads only to "an endless parade of trivia and fashion, the silt of tomorrow." Instead, Robert Pirsig suggests we should concern ourselves with "What is best?", a question that cuts deeply rather than broadly, moving the silt downstream. Right now, the world is moving incredibly fast but without any clear direction. People just jump from one trend to another to feel busy. This is a trap. If we only build or consume things because they are trendy, our work will soon turn into silt, the useless trash of tomorrow. We have to stop looking for the next shiny thing. By choosing quality over novelty, we build things that actually last.
