Adoption Curve

Every new technology follows a predictable pattern called an adoption curve. It starts small, hits a tipping point, and then suddenly goes mainstream. The leverage opportunity exists in timing. Becoming an expert during the early adopter phase, before the tipping point, provides asymmetric advantage. When the market finally expands, demand for your knowledge increases automatically. This is the highest-leverage position for building expertise, as you gain association with expert status simply from being early. You can test your timing by asking an average person to name five companies in that space. If they cannot name more than two, the technology has not gone mainstream yet. Specializing late means you have to work thousands of hours just to compete. If you position yourself early, the growing market does the hard work for you.
